Projects & Events

Outside of our regularly scheduled reading series, the Parkland Poets’ Society also engages with our members and the community at large in a variety of events each year. Events and projects may be run by the society, or in partnership with other Parkland County and Edmonton-area clubs, societies, non-profits, and community groups.

The Turtle Island Collective Presents: Dapper Dan’s Indian & Outlaw Extravaganza

“Do it againโ€ they said. โ€œOnce more!โ€ they cried, โ€œEncore!โ€ And so Daper Dan returns to The Roxy Theatre with his Indian & Outlaw Extravaganza. Elder Violet Poitras will offer teachings in the Stoney language to educate and delight. The Mistress of Ceremonies Sage Giroux will vibe musically with Nicole Bodnaresk setting the stage for the incredible and virtually edible poetics of Saraswoti Lamichhane, Carley Nicole, Arsh Kaur, Shyanne Duquette, plus a special guest or two.

AND THENโ€ฆ to finish up the night a poetry SLAM: competition between and against the open micโ€™s of Edmonton; The Stroll of Poets VS Parkland Poets VS The Olive Reading Series VS Soul Speak VS Alexandra Open mic VS Alberta Writerโ€™s Guild. Only one winner will walk home with the cash prize. Be there or be a regular equilateral quadrangle.
