The Parkland Poets’ Society is a registered non-profit, and as such depends heavily on the efforts and dedication of volunteers to keep our readings, events, and projects happening.
Volunteer to be a Mic Host or Co-Host
The Mic Host, or emcee for our readings, is a critical role in keeping our readings welcoming, and running smoothly and on time. The Mic Host represents the Parkland Poets’ Society, and as such is required to perform certain duties and deliver some specific housekeeping items.
Co-hosts are an essential back-up for the Mic Hosts. They may share the Mic Host role during a reading, and in the event of technical difficulties or last-minute availability changes, the Co-host may be required to step in as the Mic Host.

Volunteer to be Technical Support
A Technical Support person is always required to be present and on standby for our Zoom readings. This role often handles simple background tasks that keep the reading running smoothly, like adjusting spotlights on readers and handling any recordings that have been requested.
Volunteer to Serve on the Board
The Board of Directors meets on the first Thursday of each month to make decisions related to the readings series, society budget, special event schedule and planning, and address any concerns or suggestions from the membership. Each elected position is for a one-year term.
Board membership is a volunteer position. Nominations are made and voted on at the AGM each March. We are grateful for the generosity of the elected members who give so freely of their time and energy to keep Parkland Poets amazing.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
We often require volunteers to help plan or run our special events and projects throughout the year. When an event is identified that requires volunteers, we make announcements at our readings and post the opportunity on Sign-Up Genius to help us keep track of who is available.
Donate
If you’d like to help keep The Parkland Poets’ Society running, but don’t have time to volunteer, please consider making a donation. Donations ensure that we can run our special events and projects, and that there is always coffee, tea, and cookies at our in-person readings. Every donation is greatly appreciated.
