Description

The third collection of poetry by the Parkland Poets’ Society.

Published in 2020.

This edition of Parkland Poets’ annual collection of poetry was compiled in 2020, a year that will ever be remembered for the chaos and devastation of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over this past year, we have also seen a global response to the injustices that are still being faced by people of colour and other minority groups. These disruptions to tour systems of organization and thought have invited a consideration and an evaluation of what it means to be a community and how we situate ourselves within our communities.

Poetry provides a brilliant medium for exploring our innermost allegiances, for examining our thoughts and our feelings, and for inviting others to do the same. That intimate dialogue provides an alternative means of achieving community, one that does not necessitate the physical presence of another person, but that brings us closer to each other nonetheless. I hope that within these pages, you will recognize something of yourself in the words of others, and that you will be encouraged to challenge your own assumptions. I also hope that here, in our third annual collection, you will find words to offer companionship and comfort during times when you may find yourself “outlying” or alone.
